
Inter-Varsity Folk Dance Festival

On the 5 - 7 March, Durham will play host to the Inter-Varsity Folk Dance Festival. The Festival, which has been an annual event for 60 years, celebrates the best of folk music and dance, and will take place in several locations around Durham. This year’s highlights include:
- a concert featuring Eliza Carthy and Aidan Curran, with The Young 'Uns and Fidola
- Northumbrian, English, Scottish and even a disco ceilidh with the following well-known bands - Whapweasel, 422, Vertical Expression, Robert Whitehead and The Danelaw Dance Band, George Unthank and the Moorcock Ceilidh Band, Dusk 'til Dawn
- many workshops allowing you to have a go yourself including Traditional Rapper, Cotswold Morris, Northumbrian Clog, Welsh Singing, Longsword, Arbeau 16th Century Dance, Playing by Ear, and many more dance, song and tunes workshops
- a Morris tour: everyone is invited to watch young dancers from around the country perform at outdoor locations in Durham City centre.
All events are open to members of the public. Please see the website for details of individual events. Tickets are available for the whole weekend or for individual activities.
