1pm-2pm Charles Fernyhough: Little Minds, Big Ideas

2.30pm-3.30pm Ziauddin Sardar: Balti Britain


Part history, part biography, Ziauddin Sardar’s Balti Britain tracks the Asian experience in Britain, from the arrival of the  first Indian in 1614 to interviews with young Muslim extremists in London. Along the way he examines the pros and cons of arranged marriage and investigates whether vindaloo and baltis actually exist. Chaired by Professor Ash Amin of Durham University.


4pm-5pm Ben Wilson: Are We Losing our Liberty?

Brilliant, timely and readable’ Tony Benn Fear of terrorism, crime and social chaos are all factors that have challenged our society’s view of ideal liberty. In his new book What Price Liberty?, Ben Wilson looks at how four centuries of history helped to construct civil liberties and reflects on how the controversies of the past decade are shaking our current principles.
