The dance halls of Durham City will come alive with a musical and dance extravaganza the weekend of 29 - 31 January with 'DJam' - The North East Swing Dance Festival.

Leading dance events company, Lindy Jazz, will be turning venues such as the Three Tuns Hotel, the Masonic Hall and the Durham Students’ Union into an international hive of 1930s Lindy Hop dance activity, to encourage people to lift their mood and to share in the joy of dance. Enjoy an exhilarating weekend-long event, packed with a wide range of entertainment, workshops and performances from 10am and parties to 3.00 am!

DJam will bring people from New York, Paris, London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and the North East together, to take part in one of the biggest partner dance events of its kind in Durham/North East. Other highlights include a full weekend of dance workshops of various styles, evening dance parties including the Saturday night Moulin Rouge party featuring a 22-piece band ‘Kinky Jeff and the Swingers’ and spotlight cabarets by dance performers Lucky Skillen and Eden Rice from New York and a Blues party from midnight to 3 a.m.

For more information on this unique weekend event for both new and experienced dancers visit www.lindy-jazz.co.uk

The weekend has been extended into Monday 1 February at the Slug and Lettuce, Walkergate where anyone can try out a taster beginner’s swing dance class at 7.15 pm with guest teacher and performer Lucky Skillen from New York City. This will be followed by social dancing to swing DJs until 10.45 pm. Tickets on the door are £7 for the whole evening, anyone can drop in and there is no need to book or come with a partner.
