Laura Ford - Armour Boys
Laura Ford is showing five powerful bronze sculptures entitled 'Armour Boys' as part of our annual Sculpture in the Park programme in the grounds of the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery through the Summer.
The quiet after the storm; five small bronze, armour clad figures lie scattered and lifeless. Their limp, twisted bodies seem to have been violently thrown about, discarded and forgotten. They are a far cry from the traditional suits of armour often displayed in museums and challenge concepts associated with war. The 'playing dead' of children's war games becomes all too real and we are reminded not only of the plight of child soldiers, but of the vulnerability of all children around the world.
