Enjoy the tranquillity of Georgian times at Pockerley Manor at Beamish. Take a guided tour of the beautiful gardens, stocked with varieties of flowers, fruit and vegetables from the early 1800's. Follow the pack horse and her handler on a walk through the peaceful Georgian landscape and see how the countryside looked before the coming of steam railways.
Perhaps you'd prefer something more sedentary - then rest awhile and listen to the storyteller in the bothy at Pockerley Waggonway or relax with a book or a newspaper of the times in Pockerley Manor parlour or Home Farm kitchen. Maybe you'd find handicrafts soothing - pick up some knitting or try a spot of needlework in the farm and manor house - very therapeutic!
Pop into the Methodist chapel in the Pit Village and savour the serenity of Women's Bright Hour. See the ladies at work on a Durham wholecloth quilt and a fine patchwork quilt, lend a hand with the sewing and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.
All of the activities for Peace & Tranquillity Week are included in the standard admission charge to Beamish. For full details of dates and times of activities, telephone 0191 370 4000 or visit www.beamish.org.uk
