Killhope, North of England Lead Mining Museum

Killhope the North East's Small Visitor Attraction of the year plus Gold Standard Green Tourism Destination, inaugural winner of the Guardian's Family Friendly Museum, winner of the NorthEast England Sustainable Tourism award, sliver award Customer Service 2006 and 2005 winner of the "Most Welcoming Experience." Killhope is accredited as a 'Quality Assured Visitor Attraction' where visitors can discover the lives of Victorian Lead Mining families. Park Level mine is a real adventure. Equipped with hard hat, lamp and wellies, you are guided down the original tunnel. On the surface, dress up in Victorian style clothes and work as a washer boy. See the North of England's largest working water wheel, meander through woodland walks. Pennine Jewels and Spar Box exhibitions, shops and cafe, enhance your day out in the country.
