Culture bid exhibition hits the road

Added: 02/09/2009
Communities across County Durham can back Durham’s City of Culture bid in a new exhibition that hit the road today.
The official logo and branding to be used in the drive to bring the new government prize to the North East will visit seven locations between now and October.
Visitors to the exhibition, which also shows how the bid will look, will be able to pledge their support on specially designed postcards.
The official Durham 13 City of Culture logo and branding has been designed by the Gateshead-based agency Stark Hartley Atkinson and is inspired by the city, countryside and character of the county’s people.
It is to be used by visitor attractions, museums, galleries and leisure outlets to promote a variety of cultural events including performing arts, music, festivals, visual arts and sport.
The exhibition began its tour at Chester-le-Street Library today (September 2) until Saturday, September 5.
It will then move to Newton Aycliffe to celebrate the opening of the new library from September 8 to 12 and then goes to Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon to coincide with the Steam Gala from September 15 to 20.
From September 22 to 26, it will be at Spennymoor Library, Bishop Auckland Town Hall (BATH) from September 29 to October 3, Peterlee Library from October 6 to 10, and Clayport Library, Durham City, from October 13 to 17.
Dates are being arranged for further exhibitions to be held in Barnard Castle, Crook, Consett and Stanley leading up to the submission of the initial bid to the government on December 11.
