Culture Minister, Margaret Hodge visited Durham yesterday and saw for herself just why Durham could be the first UK City of Culture. During her visit, Ms Hodge was given a tour of the Cathedral and had a presentation on the economic vision for the County and a briefing on the City of Culture bid.

Ms Hodge said it was a great privilege to visit Durham Cathedral and said of Durham's bid: "I am passionately committed to the concept of City of Culture. I think culture can be a way of bringing focus to a city and bringing a commmunity together. I am really pleased Durham is bidding, along with the other 13."

The minister was met by Canon Rosalind Brown, Durham County Council Leader, Simon Henig and Durham MP, Roberta Blackman-Woods.
