Organisers of what could be one of the major theatrical events of the decade are looking for singers to take part in a new production set to be performed at Durham Cathedral.

Community Opera ‘The Fall of Creation’ is one of ten specially commissioned plays which will make up Durham Mysteries, the exciting contemporary revival of a traditional mystery play cycle, taking place from 27 – 29 May 2010.

Organisers are calling for singers of all ages and abilities to get involved by joining the ‘Creation Chorus,’ a large scale choir made up of amateur singers at all levels of experience, along with schools and already established choirs from across the region.

With music by Tim Brooks, directed by librettist Em Whitfield Brooks, and designed by Lyn Wait, The Fall of Creation will be the second play in the 2010 Durham Mysteries cycle, musically charting Lucifer’s descent from Heaven, and his reappearance as the infamous serpent responsible for Adam and Eve’s eventual exile from the Garden of Eden.

The Fall of Creation will feature professional Soprano Emily Smith, who will play Eve, and baritone David Pisaro, as Lucifer/Satan.

People interested in getting involved can come along to a taster singing workshop taking place on March 16 from 6pm til 8pm at Gala Theatre Studio. Rehearsals for the Creation Choir will take place from 6-8pm at Gala Theatre Studio on April 27 and May 4, 11 and 18, 2010. To get involved please register, by emailing:  mysteries@galadurham.co.uk
