Anticipation building for Durham Mystery Plays

Anticipation is building for one of Durham’s most exciting events in 2010. The 10 stories for The Durham Mysteries have now been chosen and traditional tales such as Cain & Abel and Noah & the Flood will be given a new contemporary twist by writers including David Almond (Skellig) and Ian McMillan (BBC Radio 3).
Still performed in UK cities such as York and Chester, Mystery Plays are one of the earliest forms of live theatre. Their resurrection in Durham, while celebrating the city’s faith-based history, will see a contemporary ‘retelling’ of traditional Mysteries stories over three nights at venues across the city involving anything from dance, opera and musical theatre, to film and new media.
Local people, organisations and community groups are invited to get involved in the production, both onstage or by playing a key role behind the scenes, by attending one of the following public meetings:
Tues 29th Sept Gala Theatre, Durham 6.00pm
Thurs 1st Oct Bishop Auckland Town Hall 6.00pm
Monday 5th Oct Seaham Leisure Centre 8.00pm
