
Durham Miners' Gala
Durham Miners' Gala more commonly known locally as Durham Big Meeting celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2009. This annual gathering in July celebrates mining heritage and trade unionism and over 30 brass bands march through the city together with residents of Durham's former pit villages displaying their pit banners.
