Granted first-class status in 1991, Durham is English cricket's newest first-class county. The County Ground at the Riverside is also one of the newest additions to the English Test match circuit.
In recent years the County side has been very successful winning the County Championship in 2008 for the first time, and retaining the trophy in the 2009 season.
The ground is undergoing a programme of expansion and it will host an Ashes test match in 2013.
