The actor best known for 'Bleak House', 'Little Dorrit', 'Our Friends in the North' and 'New Tricks' was born in Annfield Plain and attended Consett Grammar School. He made his debut in 'Get Carter' in 1971 which was filmed in several locations in the North East.
